Camino, Day 1: St-Jean-Pier-de-Port to Roscenvalles (24.8 km)
We got up at 6:50 packed and departed. Stopped at the local baker to buy bread and sweet buns, filled up our bottles and departed.
Began the journey...
It was tough, the sack seemed too heavy, wrongly adjusted... beginning was hard, and we were ascending in the morning mist. later on when the sun opened the sky I saw some breathtaking landscapes that I can´t even put in words. The beauty was overwhelming, the peace pursuing, getting into the deepest areas of the heart. Pure paradise, absolute magic.
Just before the first Albergue we med to girls, Tonja (walking all the way from Antwerp!!!) and Catherine.
We stopped after 3 hours to get a lunch and an espresso, I got an extra boost of the energy and we split again. It feels so hard at the moment. We're about 8 km done, another 20 or so left.
God bless the pilgrims...
We're somewhere on the 14th km and my words can't describe the magnificent epic surroundings, even the photo can't bring it up. It feels somehow divine, in touch with the infinitive. The Spirit of Peace surrounds us. In this unexplained touch of beauty I feel fully @ peace.
We met three german girl students, an architect, a theologian and a psychologist...
Journey took us about 7-8 hours with stops every now and than to relax, rest air our feet and massage them. I drunk probably 4-5 litres of water and sweated it all out.
Finally arrived in Roscenvalles around 5 pm after a very long stretched descent. We registered for the Pilgrim's Dinner (Carte de Pelegrino) and got our bed in a Refugio.
The refugio is hudge, 120 places on 60 double bunk beds, Tom and I were asked to take the top ones.
After a shower and little laundry we went out to our dinner place.
Starter: Pasta with Toato Sauce & Chese, Main: Trout and French Fries (the skinny ones). Bottle of wine and Yoghurt. Ah! Beautiful!
After the meal we went back to our Refugio.
The lights will go off at 10pm, on at 6 am.
I am a little bit tired, no sores on my feet, slightly sore back.
But I am so so happy to be here.
God bless you all, until the next time.
Buen Camino!
