Camino Finisterre, Day 1(33) - Towards the End of the World
Next day after arriving in Santiago we left the beautiful city and directed our steps to the End of the World (Finistera)... A three day journey.
Little that I knew that this journey will be more spectacular for me and more emotional than tha previous 32 days of walkin, so little.
Parts of that journey and events are so emotional for me at the moment, and so strong that I will not write about them here, at least not right now.
Anyway, let´s begin.
The group I walked in grew one extra person just before Santiago, so there was Tonia (from Belgium, walked all the way from Antwerp), Jana (from Germany), Christina (from Denmark) and Rebekka (from Germany).
Early in the morning (about 7#) we began our walk, and it was quite dark outside the city so we had to use our head torches, because first couple of kilometers after town was going through very nice eucalyptus forrest.
The walk went smoothly, and we were eger to go on because the nearest place to get breakfast was about 10 km away. When we finally arrived it was so nice, coffee and tortija de patata made the great breakfast ans slowly but surely we continued the walk.
The first day´s stage in my guide was pretty short. And we arrived in our final destination (Negreira) at about 2:30 pm. We all (except Rebekka) checked in the Albergue, Rebekka decided to go on.
I got my bed covers sorted upstairs on my bed, layed down to relaxed a bit but something didn´t feel quite right. Went down stairs and talked to the girls and we all decided to go shopping and cook. I was looking forward to the idea but inside I felt I needed to walk. This feeling was uncomfortable to me, so after an hour of struggling I decided to leave the Albergue and continue to walk. I didn´t know where will I sleep tonight but it just felt so right to walk on!
In about an hour or two I cathed up with Rebekka, and slowed down to wald a bit with her.
Next Albergue was in a place called Vilaserio and believe me It was the most rough Albergue on my walk. I called (with my very broken Spanish) a private Albergue in Maronias asking could I reserve two places for the night and made a reservation, also I asked for an opportunity to have dinner there. We had to walk another 8 km and it was getting late...
We walked so good that we nearly missed the Albergue only when I saw the Signpost for Bon Xesus I realized that we´re already too far. We walked today from sunrise till sunset all day long, all together 45+ km, the longest walk on my Camino.
So we came back to the place we just passed which happened to be an Albergue we were going to and checked in. We were asked to come immediately to eat and so we did. Dinner was brilliant, Gaelic Soup, Spaggetti Bolognese, Red Wine, Desert...
After that all we were able to do was to shower and just jump in the sleeping bags and fall asleep...
The next day was looking also very adventurous...
